What you need

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3 tbsp coconut or canola oil
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1–2 tbsp Peddler’s Powder (start with 1, taste, add more)

How to make it

  1. Heat. Warm the oil in a heavy pot over medium-high with three kernels in it. When they pop, the oil is ready.
  2. Pop. Add the rest of the kernels, cover, and shake the pot. Crack the lid a little to let steam out.
  3. Pull. When the popping slows to 2–3 seconds between pops, take it off the heat.
  4. Butter. Pour into a big bowl and drizzle the butter while tossing.
  5. Dust. Sprinkle Peddler’s Powder in two rounds, tossing between, so every piece gets some. A paper bag shake works too.

Two more ways Bloody Mary rim: run a lime wedge around the glass and dip it in a saucer of Peddler’s Powder. Watermelon: dust the wedges right before serving.
